What to do in the garden right now

The shop starts not with shelves, but with the garden bed. Pick a month — the page will show this period's tasks and pick out the products they need.

Fertilizers with application rate

We put the rate on the card, not in fine print in the description: more isn't better, a nitrogen overdose pushes leaf growth instead of fruit.

Storage conditions

Seeds lasts exactly that long, as long as conditions allow

A packet that's spent the summer on a windowsill has lost its germination. Three rules and a timing table — so you don't buy the same thing twice.

Temperature

Steady +5…+15 °C with no swings. Worse than warmth is only fluctuation: condensation inside the pack kills the embryo.

  • Bottom shelf of a room closet, not the kitchen
  • Not near a radiator or on a windowsill

Humidity

Up to 60%. In a root cellar seeds get damp within a week, so that's no place for them — root vegetables only.

  • Glass jar with lid, silica gel inside
  • Paper bag inside the jar, not plastic

Labeling and record-keeping

The harvest year on every pack. Without it, after two seasons you're sowing who-knows-what and blaming poor germination on the weather.

  • Variety, year, packet opening date
  • Germination check 3 weeks before sowing
