How to keep flowers fresh
Four habits that add a few extra days to your bouquet's life.
Trim the stems
With a sharp knife at a 45° angle, under running water. Pruning shears crush the stem channels.
Change the water daily
Wash the vase along with the water: slime on the walls is bacteria, and it makes flowers wilt faster.
Remove the lower leaves
Anything that ends up underwater must be cut off, or it will start to rot.
Keep away from heat and fruit
A radiator, direct sunlight, and a nearby vase of apples cut a bouquet's life in half.
